Salesman of the Year
NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd has announced Ray Nicholson as its Salesman of the Year at its recent annual sales conference held in Edinburgh.
It is the first time 57-year-old Ray, of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, has won the title; an achievement he is justly proud of.
He said: “I am delighted to have won the award as we have a 10-strong team of very good sales people at NGK who are very competitive and all strive to win this prestigious award. I thought I had a chance of winning the title as I had enjoyed a successful sales year particularly on spark plugs and ignition coils, but I did not know I had won it until the conference announcement.”
Ray, who is NGK’s Sales Representative for East Sussex, Kent, Essex – outside of the M25, South East and South West London, has 40 years’ experience of working in the automotive industry having started in the business on a four-year apprenticeship in the parts department of a Ford main dealer.
He subsequently worked in the dealer network covering Jaguar, Rover and Rolls-Royce, becoming a Jaguar parts specialist, before joining an independent motor factor prior to moving on to NGK in April 1992.
He added: “Next year will be my 25th anniversary with NGK. It has been a very good company to be employed by and I have been fortunate to work with some really talented people.”
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “It is a great achievement by Ray to be named Salesman of the Year. He thoroughly deserved this award for his efforts over the past 12 months in the face of fierce competition from his fellow sales team members.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the efforts of all our sales team who continue to display a high level of professionalism in looking after our customers’ needs.”
Outside of work, Ray – who is married with two children and two grandchildren – is a keen Manchester United football fan and motorcyclist. He currently owns two Yamaha XV 1900s, one a Raider and the other a Stratoliner, and is a member of the Virago Star Owners Club, with whom he regularly tours mainland Europe.
